Many people break out from face paints and make-up products that are often found in the costume aisle. Some people even end up with skin allergies from the ingredients found in costume make-up.
Types of Skin Allergies:
Contact Urticaria
Hives is also known as contact urticaria. Most people develop this after being exposed to substance they are allergic to. The reaction tends to be hives at the site where the skin came in contact with something the person is allergic to.
Allergic Contact Dermatitis
Allergic contact dermatitis tends to look like a rash. It’s often red, scaly or includes small bumps or blisters. Usually this condition is very itchy. This rash does not usually happen the first time someone is exposed to a substance but instead and more than one exposure.

Tips when shopping for costume make-up or face paint:
- Avoid thick makeup that covers the entire face
- Consider getting your Halloween costume make-up where you buy your everyday makeup.
- Consider doing light make-up that does not necessarily cover your entire face
- Patch test a product on a small area of your skin for a few hours before applying it to a larger area.
