HOW IS THE SPIDER VEIN REMOVAL PROCEDURE CARRIED OUT ON THE FACE? WHO BENEFITS?
The facial spider vein removal procedure is carried out with a tissue specific vascular laser. This laser has an affinity for blood vessels and through gently heating them, removes their unsightly appearance. This technique is great for patients with blood vessels on the nose, cheek, and chin. Rosacea patients often greatly benefit from this type of treatment.
HOW LONG DOES THE LASER TREATMENT TAKE? HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE NEEDED?
Treatment takes anywhere from 5 minutes to 30 minutes depending on the number of vessels that are present. Usually 1 to 2 treatments sessions are required to see a 50 to 80% improvement. These are spaced out every 4 weeks.
HOW MUCH DISCOMFORT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE TREATMENT?
There is minimal discomfort with the laser procedure. A cooling spray is sometimes applied to alleviate pain. Pain usually is described as a very mild and patients get used to the laser sound in short order.
HOW LONG DOES THE SKIN TAKE TO HEAL?
As this is a non-invasive procedure, the skin will usually only turn red for a few hours. If bruising occurs, this can take up to a full week to resolve. It can be concealed with the use of makeup quite easily.
WHAT ABOUT POST OP CARE?
To maintain your cosmetic benefit, we recommend sunblock and cool compresses. To reduce rosacea redness, products that contain green tea or ascorbic acid can be used. Dr. Harvey and staff will help to guide you to a successful clinical outcome.

LEGS
WHAT ARE LEG (SPIDER) VEINS?
Spider veins – are small, thin veins that lie close to the surface of the skin. Although they are connected to the larger venous system, they are not an essential part of it.
A number of factors contribute to the development of spider veins, including heredity and pregnancy. Other factors such as hormonal shifts, trauma, weight gain, prolonged sitting or standing, and the use of certain medications can also promote their development.
WHAT IS THE TREATMENT FOR LEG VEINS?
At our office, we recommend a combination approach to leg vein treatment. The gold standard for leg vein removal is still Sclerotherapy (leg vein injections). At our practice we use a chemical called 72% chromated glycerin. This is a painless injectable and it is used in 80 percent of cases. We can also use the 1064 Nd Yag laser to clean up smaller spider veins which are resistant to standard sclerotherapy.
BEFORE AND AFTERS- LEG VEIN TREATMENTS

WHAT ARE THE PRE-OP INSTRUCTIONS?
Typically, we ask our patients to discontinue the use of blood thinners such as aspirin or ibuprofen 7 days before your treatment. It is also wise to stay out of intense sunlight (or tanning beds) beginning 1 week prior to your treatment.
HOW MUCH DISCOMFORT CAN I EXPECT?
There is minimal discomfort with our sclerotherapy procedure. We use such a tiny needle and the solution has a numbing chemical in it so the pain is barely notable. With lasers, the pain is also minimal. A cooling spray can sometimes be applied to optimize patient comfort..
HOW LONG DOES THE SKIN TAKE TO HEAL AFTER SCLEROTHERAPY OR LASER?
Full healing can take up to 4 to 6 weeks with each session. One to five sessions are most often required.
WHAT ABOUT POST OP CARE?
We recommend support hose be worn for 3 days. Avoid the use of whirlpools or high-heeled shoes during the healing period (2 to 4 weeks). Other than that, there are no limitations.
